8 Points To Consider Before Hiring A Web Designer
My company gets a lot of calls from business owners who have just invested a nice chuck of change into a web site. The web site is live for a few months and then they quickly realize, I’m getting nothing out of this web site, no leads, no new business, no phone calls, no traffic. They call us to figure out why, they call us to help. Most of the time, the web site just needs a little love, some finessing, some tweaking, some optimization, but other times, Wow. Complete web site train wrecks, either all flash, or all database driven with ugly URL’s, etc., etc. These require complete revamping, the last thing the business owner wants to hear, but the truthful reality.
To be straight, your web designer needs to also GET marketing, they need to excel at SEO, they need to know consumer behavior, they need to know your market and what they are searching for. 9 out of 10 web designers are simply that, web designers. They are not marketers. SO, before you sign that web design contract, be sure to check out the following first:
1.) Can you find your web developer in Google? If not, can they get you found?
2.) Does your web developer’s web site compel you, pull you in, engage you or share valuable information with you?
3.) Did your web developer ask you key questions about your intended target audience?
4.) Did they ask you questions about your products and services so they could fully understand what it is that you do?
5.) Did they share valuable insight and a marketing perspective and offer you an ongoing marketing strategy?
6.) Did they ask you about which keywords / keyphrases are the most relevant / pertinent to your business?
7.) Did they ask you about your competition and who is the biggest threat to your business both off line and online?
8.) Did they educate you about how Google works, how people search, where they search and what to expect?
With so much online competition and thousands of new web sites launching everyday, you can’t afford to not consult with an expert before you build that web site. You need strategy, insight, professionalism, marketing know how, you need a plan. The web site is the foundation of your online presence and needs to be well thought out and built for your audience.
